As an interior designer, I'm always excited to share my tips and tricks for creating beautiful spaces without breaking the bank. Today, let's dive into the world of bathroom remodels and discuss what to save and splurge on to achieve that perfect balance of luxury and practicality.
Splurge
Cabinet Hardware: Investing in high-quality hardware can make all the difference, ESPECIALLY if you're working with ready-to-assemble (RTA) or off-the-shelf cabinetry. Those sturdy, elegant pieces not only feel and function like a dream but elevate your vanity to a level where you might not even notice that you got them off the shelf.
Light Fixtures: Lighting is the jewelry of a bathroom, so go ahead and splurge on a statement piece that becomes the focal point. A carefully curated light fixture can set the mood and ambiance, ensuring you'll appreciate it every time you step into your oasis.
Tile Work: Premium tiles, like natural stone or handmade ceramic, can transform your bathroom into a work of art. Embrace the imperfect, organic look and be sure to hire a skilled tile installer who takes pride in their craft and is excited to showcase their expertise.
Countertops: A beautiful countertop can be the crowning glory of your bathroom vanity. Consider splurging on a high-end material like quartz or marble, and making the fascia extra thick (3”-5”). This doesn't significantly impact the fabrication costs, if at all, so why not indulge?
Save
Semi-Custom Cabinetry: Instead of splurging on a high-end vanity, consider going semi-custom. This will allow you to maximize your storage rather than being limited to standard size boxes. Look for cabinet companies that offer customizable sizing. While it may take a minimum of 6-8 weeks, it's well worth the wait. Of course, there is also the option of buying ready-made vanities. Mirrors: While custom-made mirrors can be pricey, there are many affordable options available that can still look chic and stylish. Look for well-made mirrors with a simple yet elegant frame that fits your bathroom's vibe.
Porcelain Tiles: When it comes to flooring, opt for large format porcelain tiles. Not only are they durable and water-resistant, but they are usually very well priced.
Pleated Curtains: For a luxurious look without the luxury price tag of a shower glass enclosure, consider doing a combination of these pleated curtains from Amazon and waterproof lining. Install them all the way up to the ceiling, and you'll instantly add a touch of drama and elegance to your bathroom.
Toilet: While a functional and water-efficient toilet is a must, you don't need to splurge on the most expensive model. Look for mid-range options that offer good quality, performance, and style. Our favorites are those with a modern skirt for easy maintenance!
Accessories: Bathroom accessories like towel bars, robe hooks, and toilet paper holders can add up quickly. Shop around for affordable options that complement your overall design aesthetic. They don't have to match the plumbing collection!
Remember, the key to a successful bathroom remodel is all about balance. Splurge on those statement pieces that will elevate the space, but don't be afraid to save on areas where you can find quality, budget-friendly alternatives. With a little creativity and strategic planning, you can create a bathroom that's both beautiful, functional and affordable.
Happy remodeling, my friends!
